The largest and longest running home and garden event in SL, The Home and Garden Expo returns the 27th February to 21st March 2021. Exhibitors will have access to set up their displays as early as 20th February, and the regions will be open for preview for our blogger team on 25th February. (Possibly earlier access for set up depending upon when regions are received and ready to roll)
The Home & Garden Expo is an event that seeks to support Relay For Life of Second Life, as well as its exhibitors and guests. Expo exhibitors are required to have one (1) Relay For Life of Second Life 100% donation item at the Expo. This item must be new and exclusive to the Expo for the duration of the event. RFL of SL also benefits via the Gachas, where proceeds are evenly split between the Creator and RFL of SL.
In 2021, we will again include a small amount of Second Life fashion. To be eligible to apply as a clothing vendor, you must also agree to participate in Second Life’s Kerryth Tarantal Wearable Art Awards. Please see the web page for details, costs, store sizes and associated information on all parcel sizes.
Well, it will be time at 4pm SLT today, Sunday 22nd March.
Throughout the weeks of the Home and Garden Expo, we have had calm, peaceful times at 4pm each day when the lanterns are released. It provided a space for meditation and reflection. We thought of those who have gone before us in the fight against cancer, and also those who are fighting cancer, or supporting others through it.
Today, as the Expo comes to an end, we will celebrate this event with one last explosion of joy and thanksgiving for all those we love and have loved, all those who have stood together with us on the fight.
Tonight, with special music supplied by DaveOSaurus, we will watch those lanterns rise … and some us will RIDE them into the night sky.
And then we will come down into the gardens at the Designing Worlds cafe and dance until 6pm!
We’ll also be announcing the result of the Home and Garden Expo Decoration Story competition – so don’t miss it!
1st Place: Jarrod Beck for House 8: Lil Victorian by Painted Pixels
2nd Place: Ororeia Resident & Kyra Nachtigal for House 4: The Skwer by Cain Maven
3rd Place: House 5: Aja Direwytch for Barn House by RVi Design
In addition …
We invited the competitors to submit stories to go with their homes, if they wanted to, and several did. You can read these stories by clicking on the signs by the gates of each house. We were so impressed by the stories that we decided to run a second competition for the best three stories.
These will be judged and the results announced at the Final Lantern Ceremony at 4pmSLT on the roof of the theatre on Hope 3 – when we all ride the Lanterns (more details about that to come).
And that will be followed by a party in the gardens of the Designing Worlds cafe at the Expo (designed by undercoverlady), dj’d by DaveOSaurus.
Framed Pictures (modifiable so you can resize, etc). Normally 250L each. Sale at Event was 199L per photo. In addition, two pictures are further reduced to only 100L for the duration of the Home&Garden Expo Event..
2pm SLT: Sandi Glas will be talking about her stylish and elegant homes and the romanticism of working in an old fashioned way – with prims.
She’ll be demonstrating some of the techniques she’s developed over years in Second Life.
And in addition, there’s a special prize to be won! Sandi is offering a place in a draw for everyone who attends the session, with the prize being a fantastic Natane Home (which you can currently see on Hope 3 in the decorating contest). Who would want to miss that?
To apply for a house, click the Home and Garden Decorating Signs by the houses on Hope 3, and drop your card in complete the notecard below and post it in one of the blue mailboxes at either end of the street.
For the last year two years, we have held our Home and Garden Decorating Competition – and we’ve been blown away by the standard of work you all produced!
Not only that – last year the competition also raised the amazing sum of 241,000 Lindens, which is about US$975.
So this year it is back, with fourteen homes for our finalists to decorate!
The houses are a total of nine different builds, ranging from Victorian to ultramodern, with beach cottages and log cabins. There’s even a special home for petites/dinkies/tinies!
Full details will appear on this page shortly and you are, of course, be able to explore the full range at the Expo on Hope 3!
These homes and gardens will be decorated by fourteen finalists who will have 400 prims (land impact) to decorate the Home and the surrounding Garden area.
The finalists will be chosen by a raffle draw made by Saffia Widdershins, who will draw the names out of the equivalent of a Second Life hat (a random name generator script).
The finalists will be each assigned one of the fourteen houses, based on their preferences. Competitors can work alone or in pairs or in a small team.
Each contestant (or team) can decorate in any style they wish that suits their house, but they MUST include AT LEAST THREE items purchased from RFL vendors at the Home and Garden Expo.
People will vote for the final winner by donating to a kiosk set outside each of the houses. Each Linden donated to Relay for Life in these kiosks will count as a vote.
February 13th – 19th – people apply for the competition, stating which house they would like to decorate.
February 19th – 26th- the competitors decorate their houses and gardens
February 27th – March 2nd – visitors to the Expo can vote on which house and garden they like best.
March 4th – the winners will be announced at a special party!
To apply for a house, click the Home and Garden Decorating Signs by the houses on Hope 3, and drop your card in complete the notecard below and post it in one of the blue mailboxes there by the end of Wednesday, February 16th OR fill in the form below.
At 2pm SLT today, Sunday 16th February, we will be holding the first of the Prim Perfect talks when Saffia Widdershins will be talking to Del Flower and Kess Crystal of Seraphim, the premier events and sales blog.
You can discover all about Seraphim, how it works, how it can help your promote your brand, your event or your blog, and what it feels like to run such a popular media source.
And in addition, there’s a special prize to be won! Seraphim are offering a place in a draw for everyone who attends the session, with the prize being a 1,000 Linden gift voucher for Apple Fall. Who would want to miss that?
