Last year our Home and Garden Decorating Competition had sixteen houses – and we were blown away by the standard of work you all produced!
Not only that – the competition also raised the amazing sum of 159,288 Lindens – that’s US$615.93 in total!

So this year it is back, with a very sneaky twist. This year we are cutting the number of prims/li you have to build with!
The houses are fourteen different builds, including two of seven different styles, including beach houses, tiny homes and one with a distinctively Mexican feel – the new Casa Blanca from Danny Bourne. Full details will appear in the blog and on the Home Decorating page shortly and you will, of course, be able to explore the full range at the Expo!

These homes and gardens will be decorated by fourteen finalists who will have 350 prims (land impact) to decorate the Home and the surrounding Garden area.
The finalists will be chosen by a raffle draw made by Saffia Widdershins, who will draw the names out of the equivalent of a Second Life hat (a random name generator script).
The finalists will be each assigned one of the fourteen houses, based on their preferences. Competitors can work alone or in pairs or in a small team.

Each contestant (or team) can decorate in any style they wish that suits their house, but they MUST include AT LEAST THREE items purchased from RFL vendors at the Home and Garden Expo.
People will vote for the final winner by donating to a kiosk set outside each of the houses. Each Linden donated to Relay for Life in these kiosks will count as a vote.

These will be judged and the results announced at the Final Lantern Ceremony at 4pmSLT on the roof of the theatre on Hope 3 – when we all ride the Lanterns (more details about that to come).
And that will be followed by a party in the gardens of the Designing Worlds cafe at the Expo (designed by undercoverlady), dj’d by DaveOSaurus.

Every day at 4pm, there is a special lantern release ceremony from the roof of the Main Theatre at the Expo.
Lantern Release, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont
Often the event takes place in comparative silence – a break from the busyness (and the business) of the Expo – a time to reflect, remember and mourn.
But the LAST Lantern Release is very different – a time to celebrate the Expo and all we’ve achieved. And we RIDE those lanterns into the heavens!
(There will also be an OOAK (One of a Kind) Live Auction on Sunday 7th April at 1pm SLT. )
And don’t forget that more of the Silent Auction boards are closing TODAY, so get down to Hope 7 and put your bids in – there are some fantastic bargains still to be had.
There is still the time to vote in the Home and Garden Decorating Contest!
We have now raised over $240,000 – and have extended the voting time by 12 extra hours (till noon on Saturday 6th April) in the hope that we can raise the total to L$250,000.
RFL kiosks have been placed outside each home. Every Linden you pay into the kiosks counts as a vote – you can vote as much and as often as you like, and you can vote for as many houses as you want!

Entertainment at The Home Expo Theatre on this last weekend of the event is full of great music provided by some of Second Life’s TOP performers.
2pm: Satin & Erin
Satin Galli and Erin68 Frog are two of SL’s best live vocalists! Being a real life couple, they perform a mix of duets and solos of favorite cover songs. Their spirited banter and laughter, interaction with the crowds, and top vocals make for a fantastic hour of entertainment!
3pm: Wolfie Starfire
Wolfie Starfire, also known as Meg Groves, took interest in theatre at a young age, and aspired to be successful in the worlds of both music and film. She took many singing, acting and dance classes, and dabbled in the film and commercial industries. Meg is currently pursuing a BFA in Acting at Coastal Carolina University.
5pm: Keeba Tammas
Keeba Tammas is one of the finest female vocalists in Second Life. A professional vocalist for many years, Keeba was in a variety of bands in the eighties. She also did voice overs for cartoons and commercials. A seasoned performer in SL as well, Keeba is a very sought after female vocalist here in our virtual world. From the first song to the last she delivers a power packed punch … belting out her songs with tremendous energy and shear raw talent.
6pm: Djembe Dragonfire
Djembe Dragonfire’s background includes many years of professional musical experiences including conducting, teaching, and performing, he has sung in a major opera chorus, sung solos in many churches, and even sang back up vocals on a CD produced for a contemporary vocal artist.
